Mrs. Evelyn Smelley Leggett, 52, the widow of James Leggett, and a resident of Cooter died Saturday, January 1, 1983, at Pemiscot County Memorial Hospital in Hayti. She was born in Ripley, Mississippi and lived in Cooter the past 20 years. She was a Baptist.
Mrs. Leggett leaves three sons: Douglas Leggett of Memphis, Sidney Leggett of Cooter and William of Bakersfield, California; two daughters, Mrs. Shirley Laster of Jonesboro and Mrs. Peggy Copeland; one brother, Harold Smelley of Cooter; three sisters, Mrs. Velma Bourque of Milton, Louisiana, Mrs. ? Cooter and Mrs. Lorine Hooper of Blytheville; and nine grandchildren.
Funeral services were Monday, January 3, at 1:30 p.m. in Cobb Funeral Home Chapel in Steele, Bill Cardwell officiated. Burial was in Number Eight Cemetery in Cooter.
