Mrs. Effie Mae Bivens, 58, of the No. 8 (Oak Ridge) Community in the south part of Pemiscot County, died Saturday afternoon at Wall's Hospital in Blytheville as a result of injuries suffered in an accident about 10;30 that morning, when she was hit on a country road by a car driven by Mrs. Johnnie Mick of the same community.
Mrs. Bivens had crossed the road to her mailbox and had started to return when, according to Mrs. Mick, she walked onto the road reading the mail and went directly into the path of the car. No inquest was held, the accident being considered unavoidable by state police who investigated.
Funeral services for Mrs. Bivens was held at the Church of Christ in Steele Monday afternoon, conducted by the Rev. Tommy McClure of Blytheville. Burial was in Number 8 Cemetery.
She is survived by her husband, J.B. Bivens; three sons, John W. Bristow, Raymond E. King and Albert S. King, all of St. Louis; three daughters, Mrs. Vernon Reaves of Malden, Mrs. George Steele of Killen, Tex., Mrs. John Scher of Granite City, Ill.; and a sister, Mrs. Cora Sprandin of Midland, Tex.

James B. Bivens of Steele, 85 years, 6 months and three days of age, passed away Friday in a hospital in Arkansas. He became ill while visiting a son in Lone Oak.
Funeral services were held in the Baptist Church at 2 o'clock Sunday with the Rev. McCrary, assisted by Rev. Alonzo Barrow officiating. He leaves his son, Denver Bivens of Little Rock and Mr. Tom Bivens of Texas, several step-children and a niece, Mrs. Euna Gilliland, with whom he lived part time, of Cooter.
