Donald Gene Morris Sr. surrounded by his family, passed peacefully from this earth and was welcomed into the gates of Heaven on August 4, 2019, in Springfield, MO at the age of 81. He was born November 24, 1937, in Paragould, AR to Emmit and Bernice Morris. Donald was raised between Paragould, AR, Greenville, MS and New Orleans, LA. He was raised by his mom, Aunt Znobie and Uncle Johnnie Morris and Aunt Bea Brodeur.
He is preceded in death by his father, Emmitt Morris of San Antonino, TX; mother, Bernice Mims Morris of Willow Springs, MO, sisters, Dorthy Fleming of Flint, Michigan and Shirley Lundy of Willow Springs, and brother, Neal Morris of LaGrange, Kentucky; aunt, Bea Brodeur, of New Orleans, LA; and aunt and uncle Znobie and Johnnie Morris, of Greenville, MS.
He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Barbara Morris of Willow Springs, MO; sons, Donald Gene Morris Jr. (Tena) and Gary Scott Morris all of Willow Springs, MO; daughter, Lisa Ann Kanai (Hidehiro) of Alexander, AR; sister, Sally Ramirez (John) of Huntington Beach, CA; grandchildren, Hannah, Hailey, Haven Elizabeth and Harrison Morris Kanai; and great-granddaughter, Adalyn Grace Kanai.
Don’s favorite pastime was hunting, fishing while wading through the rivers of the Ozarks. Some of the most cherished memories of Don are him standing in the river, ballcap set back and cocked sideways, where his fishing license stayed pinned, dark, tousled, wavy hair brushing his forehead, and his fishing rod sitting comfortably in his hands.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. at Yarber Mortuary Chapel, Willow Springs. Interment will be in Willow City Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Charcot-Marie-Tooth Research Foundation, which works hard to find treatments and a cure for a disease Don suffered from.
