Funeral services for James Edward Simpson, 78, West Plains, Missouri, will be at 11:00 a.m., Friday, December 9, 2011, at Immanuel Baptist Church, Pomona, Missouri, under the direction of Robertson-Drago Funeral Home.
Mr. Simpson died at 7:04 a.m., Monday, December 5, 2011, at St. John's Regional Medical Center, Springfield, Missouri. He was born July 2, 1933, at Coffeeville, Mississippi, to Edward Lester Simpson and Mary Spurgeon Simpson. On April 28, 1957, he was married at Liberty, Missouri, to Dorothy Smallwood.
Mr. Simpson was a veteran having served with the United States Army, Korean War. Before his retirement, Mr. Simpson was an iron worker and welder. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, traveling, and his grandkids and great-grandkids. He received his Honorary High School Diploma in 2002, from the West Plains R-7 School District. Mr. Simpson was of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Simpson, of the family home; six children, Brenda Brotherton, husband, Doug, Jimmie Simpson, special friend, Debbie Taylor, both of Pomona, Missouri, Dennis Simpson, wife, Gina, Karen Coursey, both of West Plains, Missouri, Joe Simpson, Pomona, Missouri and Cathy Barnes, special friend, Greg Klein, West Plains, Missouri; twelve grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; four brothers, Joe Simpson, wife, Jean, Hattiesburg, Mississippi, Bill Simpson, wife, Margaret, John Hugh Simpson, wife, Glenda, both of Coffeeville, Mississippi, and Robert Simpson, Rushton, Louisiana; one sister-in-law, Mary Ethington, husband, Gary, Wheatland, Missouri; and many nieces and nephews.
His parents, granddaughter, Ally Barnes, two sisters, Ollie Mae Waller and Lois Jones, one brother, Edward Lester Simpson, Jr., father-in-law and mother-in-law, Harold and Viola Smallwood, two sons-in-law, Mike Barnes and Gary Coursey, three brothers-in-law and one sister-in-law, precede him in death.
The family will receive their friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m., Thursday, December 8, 2011, at Robertson-Drago Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Howell Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Immanuel Baptist Church Building Fund and may be left at Robertson-Drago Funeral Home.

Funeral services for Dorothy Mae Simpson, 85, West Plains, Missouri, will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 31, 2022, in the Rose Chapel of Robertson-Drago Funeral Home.
Mrs. Simpson passed away at 10:50 a.m., Friday, August 26, 2022, at her home.
She was born January 21, 1937, at Saverton, Missouri, to Harold Benjamin Edwin Smallwood and Lou Viola Beck. She was a sharp-shooter on her high school's rifle team. On April 4, 1956, she was married at Liberty, Missouri, to James Edward Simpson, who preceded her in death December 5, 2011. Mrs. Simpson worked at Eaton for over twenty-eight years. She enjoyed cooking and making jelly baskets for the grandkids. She also enjoyed embroidering and bowling. Mrs. Simpson was of the Baptist faith.
Her parents, husband, one daughter, Karen Coursey, one son, Dennis Simpson, three sons-in-law, Gary Coursey, Mike Barnes, and Greg Klein, one granddaughter, Allyson Barnes, three brothers, James Smallwood, Richard Smallwood, and Gene Smallwood, and one sister, Leona Pedrow, preceded her in death.
Mrs. Simpson will lie in state from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, at Robertson-Drago Funeral Home. Burial will be at Howell Memorial Park Cemetery.
