Thelma Iris Hammontree, 91 of Holden, Missouri, passed away Sunday, March 28, 1999 at home.
She was born November 17, 1907 in Newton, Iowa, the daughter of Hiram G. and Martha E. (Raymond) Breckenridge.
She moved to the Holden community from Texas in 1921.
On December 25, 1922 she married Edgar Willis Wainwright. He preceded her in death on August 26, 1965. She was united in marriage to Paul Hammontree on March 3, 1968 in Holden. He passed away July 17, 1989.
Thelma was a seamstress at Hipsh Manufacturing and then at Dunhill Manufacturing Companies, both in Holden. For many years she worked as a sales clerk at the Western Auto Store in Holden.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Holden; a 50 year member of Warrensburg Chapter 3, Order of the Eastern Star; a member of the Royal Neighbors Lodge and of the Rebekah Lodge.
While health permitted, she had been active in scheduling for Older Adult Transportation Services (OATS) in Holden.
She leaves a son and his wife, Edgar and Mary Lou Wainwright of Alta Vista, Kansas; two step-sons and wives, Paul Lee and Rudene Hammontree of Kansas City, Missouri and Robert and Frances Hammontree of Kansas City, Kansas; one step-daughter and husband, Donna and Wendell Daniel of Shell Knob, Missouri; a half-sister, Elsie Grace Ploson of Sohora, California and many grand and great-grandchildren.
Also prededing her in death were her daughter, Dorothy Lamb; her brothers, Austin and Ernest, her sister, Bessie Jones, her step-daughter and husband Edythe and Chester Pieron and other step-brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 31, 1999 at 2:00 p.m. at Ben Cast & Son-Wood Funeral Home, Holden, Missouri. The Rev. Leland Holland will officiate.
Julie Stout, organist, will accompany Vicki Stout, soloist. Music will be "Beyond the Sunset," and
Beautiful Isle."
Pallbearers were John Pieron, Dennis Wainwright, Donald Wainwright, Vernon Breckenridge and Darren Breckenridge.
Interment will be at the Holden Cemetery, Holden, Missouri.
