Betty (Clara B.) Currie, 98, of Holden, Missouri passed away on Sunday, August 30, 2020 at her home.
She was born April 1, 1922 in Independence, Missouri, the daughter of William Elmer Barr Sr. and Elizabeth Ann Hiatt.
Betty graduated from Kingsville High School the class of 1940. She was a member of the Holden Community since 1936. Betty was employed as a Receptionist for a Law Firm in downtown Kansas City, MO the year before she married her husband, Oren James Currie. Oren and Betty were married on November 12, 1941 in Harrisonville, Missouri and together they shared a life as dairy farmers. Betty was a Homemaker. She baked many pies for the funerals of church family and friends. She was a member of the RYO (Rural Youth Organization), as well as a member of the Union Chapel Extension Club. Betty enjoyed volunteering at the thrift store in Holden. Following the passing of her husband, Oren in August of 1999, she spent many years volunteering at the Holden Manor Care Center. Betty was a member of the First Baptist Church of Holden.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William E. and Elizabeth A. Barr; her husband, Oren J. Currie; brother, William Elmer Barr Jr.; sister, Mary Frances Barr and her grand-daughter Rachael Daneene Houx.
Betty is survived by three daughters, Glenda Ann Chiles and husband, Ronald of Kansas City, MO, Janet Sue Houx and husband, Guy of Holden, MO, Sharron Lea Pierson and husband, Lennard of Dallas, TX; two nephews, Wayne Lee Currie and wife, Thea of Woodbridge, VA and Jerry Allen Barr of Peculiar, MO; 9 Grandchildren, 26 Great-Grandchildren and 2 Great-Great Grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., Saturday, September 5, 2020 at Holden First Baptist Church in Holden, MO (601 S. Market, Holden, MO). (The Family respectfully requests that everyone in attendance please practice Social Distancing and wear a mask).
Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 p.m., Saturday, September 5, 2020 at Holden First Baptist Church in Holden, MO with Elder Ron Chiles Officiating.
Interment will take place at the Holden Cemetery, Holden, MO.
Pallbearers will be Shannon Chiles, Evan Chiles, Jared Chiles, Jonathan Chiles, Gylin Huffman, Jim Houx, Matt Houx, Arrian Zane and Adria Warner.
In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions are suggested to the Holden First Baptist Church.
Funeral Arrangements entrusted to Campbell-Cast Funeral Home, Holden, MO.
