Frances I. "Jane" Burden, 87 of Holden, Missouri passed away Friday, August 2, 2013 at St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City.
Frances was born March 6, 1926 in Rocky, Oklahoma, daughter of Audy and Rena (Wilburn) Tirey. She was raised in Oklahoma and Texas, having picked cotton with her family. She experienced, first hand, the devastation of the dust bowl.
Frances married Vernon Ray Raines on September 27, 1942 in Durant, Oklahoma. Shortly after, the couple moved to California where she was a welder on Liberty Ships.
Vernon died in World War II. On June 19, 1947, she married King Tennyson Burden in Richmond, California. The couple moved to a farm near Holden in 1950.
Frances was Food Service Director for Holden Community School District for twenty five years, having retired in 1990.
She was a member of Holden United Methodist Church.
Survivors include six children: Vernon Raines, Jr. and wife, Marilyn of Warsaw, MO; Charles Burden and wife, Linda K. Clear, of Holden, MO; Ann Martinez of Palm Springs, CA; Susan Burden and wife, Jennifer Scott of Long Beach, CA; Linda Ludwig and husband, Raymond of Garden City, MO and John Burden and wife, Bambi of Warrensburg, MO; two sisters: Doris Marion of Montana and Mary Carroll of Arizona; cousin: Wanda Riley; eleven grandchildren; seven great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to both of her husbands, Frances was preceded in death by three brothers: Tommy, Billy and Dale and two sisters: Janice and Faye.
Funeral Services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, August 5, 2013 at Williams Funeral Chapel in Holden with Rev. Dr. Steven House of Holden United Methodist Church officiating.
Interment will follow in the Holden Cemetery.
