Joyce Edward "J.E." Bartelsmeyer, 87, Mt. Vernon, passed away at 6:13 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, 2007, in Cox South Hospital, Springfield.
He was born Jan. 4, 1920, in Lawrence County to Gustav and Kathryn Elizabeth (Roesslet) Bartelsmeyer. He was a 1939 Mt. Vernon High School graduate, a member of the National Farmers Organization, MFA Corporation, American Agriculture Movement, served on the board of the Mt. Vernon Benefit Road District, served on the board of Maple Grove Cemetery, was a retired dairy and beef farmer, and a member of the Fee Methodist Highland Church, Miller.
On Jan. 12, 1946, he was united in marriage with Emma Lou Land in Monett. She survives of the home.
Additional survivors include one daughter, Shirley Obermann, and husband Earl, Mt. Vernon; one son, Bob Bartelsmeyer, and wife Linda, West Palm Beach, Fla; four grandchildren, Robert Obermann and wife Tanya, Mt. Vernon, Shawn Obermann, Kansas City, Jon Bartelsmeyer and wife Melissa, Rogersville, and Krista Bartelsmeyer and fiance' Cameron Cupp, Liberty; and three great-grand children, Shania Obermann, Kansas City, and Justin and Samantha Ely, Neosho.
His parents, three brothers, Leslie, Lincoln and Francis Bartelsmeyer, and one great-granddaughter preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 12, in Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home, Mt. Vernon, with the Rev. Jerry Huff officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, southwest of Mt. Vernon.
