Mary Jane Conkle was born in Clark county, Missouri February 17, 1846 and died at her home in Luray, Mo., May 2, 1903, aged 57 years, 2 months and 17 days.

She was married to Thos. Borden April 15, 1866, to which union was born six children, five girls and one boy. All except one of these children have preceded her to the better land. Mrs. Borden was afflicted with that dreaded disease tuberculosis. She was in conscious condition until the last, and took advantage of this by making her own plans for the solemn service, so soon to follow.

The best of all was, that when the Master came, he found her watching and waiting, for she desired to depart hence and be with Him, which she believed was for better.

The funeral service was held at the home on Monday, May 4, and was attended by a large crowd of loving friends and neighbors. The choir sang beautiful songs, the casket was carried with careful hands and one whose kind deeds and benevolent words can never be forgotten was laid away.

By request of the deceased, the writer officiated at the service. The body was interred in the Conkle cemetery, five miles north of Luray.
