Roland Henley, one of the pioneer citizens of this county passed to his eternal reward at his home near McDowell Sunday, May 7, 1916, at the age of 83 years.

Mr. Henley was born in Carroll County, Tennessee. When only about 7 years old his parents moved to this county and located in what is now Capps creek township. He has lived in Barry County since that time, making him a resident here about 76 years. Few persons are now living who have been in Barry County so long as that. He is a brother of William Henley of this city, Darb Henley of Butterfield and Mrs. Elizabeth Owens who makes her home with her brother, William. His wife preceded him to the other world some thirty years ago. He leaves two children Mrs. Eliza Smith and Wm. Henley, both living near McDowell.

Mr. Henley served his country during the Civil War, doing service for three years in Company K of the 8th Mo. Cavalry. He was one of the county's highly respected citizens and will be missed in the community where he has lived so long.

The funeral services were conducted by Re. Prier Monday and interment made in the Bullington Cemetery.
