Son of Wallace Lester and Iva Viola Deaton Farris
The Steele Enterprise, Steele, Missouri
Thursday, July 8, 1943
A tragic note was struck Sunday, July 4, 1943 when Hollie Farris, age 10, was drowned as he and a party of young friends were celebrating the Fourth by swimming in Number 8 Ditch near Deering. Young Farris stepped into deep water and being unable to swim, quickly sank. He was taken from the water forty-five minutes later but efforts to revive him were futile.
Funeral services were conducted at the Oak Grove Baptist Church Monday afternoon by the pastor, Rev. J. T. Bradfield,
He leaves his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wallace L. Farris, two brothers, J. D. and Richard, four sisters, Susie, Marie, Juanita and Sylvia, his grandfather, Brant Deaton and a host of other relatives and friends.
German Undertaking Co. was in charge of arrangements.
