Dr. Joseph E. Beasley, M.D., died Saturday morning in Blytheville, Ark.

He was born to the late T.C. and Ouida Beasley at Steele, Mo., graduated from high school in Ft. Myers, Fla., and attended Tulane University where he received his medical degree in 1935.

Dr. Beasley attended King's County Hospital in New York City for a surgical internship and came to Blytheville to begin practice in 1937 with the late Dr. M.O. Usrey.

He served with the U.S. Navy in World War II, after which he was discharged as a lieutenant commander, flight surgeon. He returned to Blytheville and resumed private practice until 1957 when he entered the University of North Carolina and received a Master's Degree in public health.

Dr. Beasley then returned to Missisisppi County as director of County Health and was appointed District Medical Officer for Northeast Arkansas in 1975. He retired in 1977.

He was a member of First Presbyterian Church where he was a deacon, chairman of Diaconate and was elected to the Office of Ruling Elders.

Dr. Beasley was the president of Mississippi County Medical Society for three terms and was a delegate to the Arkansas Medical Society for 10 years.

He also was a member of the Blytheville Lions Club and served as president in 1949.

Dr. Beasley leaves one son, John Edward Beasley, of Little Rock; one daughter, Mrs. Molly Jo Fuller, of Blytheville; a sister, Mrs. Simms Michie of Steele; and two granddaughters.

Graveside services were held Monday at 11:00 a.m. at Mount Zion Cemetery in Steele with Rev. Thad Grimstead officiating. Arrangements were by Cobb Funeral Home of Blytheville.

Graveside services were held Sunday, October 2, 1977 at Mount Zion Cemetery in Steele for Mrs. Lillian Dietrich Beasley, wife of Dr. Joseph E. Beasley, of Blytheville.

Mrs. Beasley died Saturday, October 1, 1977 at Chickasawba Hospital following a lengthy illness. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, a board member of the Presbyterian Christian Academy and a leader in the founding of the academy.

In addition to her husband, she leaves a son, John Edward Beasley, a daughter, Mrs. Molly Jo Fuller, and her mother, Mrs. A.F. Dietrich, all of Blytheville; a brother, Paul Dietrich of Port Barre, Louisiana and two grandchildren.
