Roland Ray Taylor, 79, of West Plains died August 15 in West Plains Memorial Hospital where he had been a patient for the past 48 days. He was born near West Plains February 5, 1894, the son of the late John A. and Sarah Laymons Taylor. On January 12, 1924, he was married at West Plains in the home of the Rev. Sam Roper to Esther Carpenter, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Carpenter.
Mr. Taylor had spent his entire life farming in the area.
He was a veteran of World War I having served with the 164th Infantry, U. S. Army.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Esther Taylor of the family home: one daughter, Mrs. Ruby Lee John of Mansfield, MO; one son, Roland Dale Taylor, of New Orleans, LA; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; one brother, Emmett Taylor of Mesa, AZ; and one sister; Mrs. Freda Cromer, of West Plains, MO.
Preceding him in death were is parents and four brothers.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 18, in the Rose Chapel of Robertson-Drago Funeral Home, West Plains, with the Rev. Howard Murphy officiating. Interment will be in the family plot in Howell Valley Cemetery, under the direction of Robertson-Drago Funeral Home.
Esther C. Taylor, West Plains, died Aug. 1 in West Plains Memorial Hospital. She was born Jan, 23, 1899, at Lawrence KS, the daughter of the late William A. and Lydia Ford Carpenter.
On Jan. 12, 1924, she was married at West Plains to Roland Ray Taylor, who preceded her in death Aug. 15, 1973.
She received her elementary education in the rural schools of West Plains, later attending the business college located in West Plains.
Mrs. Taylor had been of the protestant faith for many years.
Survivors include one son, Roland Dale Taylor of New Orleans, LA; one daughter, Mrs. Robert (Ruby Lee) Johns of Mansfield, MO; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Lawrence Carpenter of Monte Vista, CO; two sisters, Mrs. Almira White and Mrs. Dorothy Hargis, both of West Plains; and a number of nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers and three sisters.
Persons attending from out of the area included Mr. and Mrs. Robert Johns, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Dennis, Benjamin and Hayden, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth. Shropshire. Jimmy and Jennifer, Mansfield, MO; Mr. and Mrs. Michael Gulley and Tonya, Naylor, MO; Mr. and Mrs. Roland Dale Taylor, Ned Taylor, New Orleans, LA; Mr. and Mrs. John O'Quin, Austin, TX; Mr. and Mrs. Lee Davidson Indianola. NE; Mrs. Becky Reams, Barry, Gary and Mark, Kirkwood, MO; and Mr. and Mrs. Wayne White, Springfield, MO.
Funeral services were held Aug. 3 in the Rose Chapel, Robertson-Drago Funeral Home, with the Rev. J. C. Surmmerlin officiating. Burial was in Howell Valley Cemetery under the direction of Robertson-Drago Funeral Home of West Plains.
Pallbearers, were Ned Taylor, Michael Gulley, Harold Dennis, Kenneth Shropshire, Fred Heinecke and Lee Davidson.
