Alexander Patterson Garlett was the son of Mr. and Mrs. David J. Garlett. He was born in Adams Co., IL, January 23, 1858, and passed away at his daughter's home, Mrs. Virgil Miller, near the old Peacock neighborhood, March 3, 1937. Age 79 years, 1 month and 8 days.
On March 25, 1883 he was united in marriage to Carolyn Myers, at Palmyra, MO. From there they moved to Texas county, where they have since resided. To this union were born seven children four boys and three girls: Mrs. Mary Silvey of South Gifford, MO; Mrs. Effie Payne, Harrison Garlett and Fred Garlett of Willow Springs, MO; Charles Garlett of Elk Creek, MO; Mrs. Rosie Miller and William Garlett of Cabool, MO. Also twenty-three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. His wife preceded him in death November 20, 1926.
At the age of 59 he professed a hope in Christ and united with the Christian church.
Funeral services were held at Freedom church March 4, by Rev. Osie Allen of Mtn. Grove. Interment following in the Freedom cemetery under the direction of the Elliott Funeral Home.
