Opal Marie Aldridge Grogan, 83, oldest of four children of Joseph and Lestel Aldridge, was born Nov. 16, 1921, near Sargent. She died Jan. 19, 2005, at Willow Care Nursing Home, where she was a resident. She had a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's.
After her mother died, her father remarried and had three children.
She married Marion Benton Grogan. They had five children.
Except for about two years, all of her life was spent in the Tyrone and Yukon area of Texas County. She worked for Angelica Uniform Co. in Summersville for 28 years, retiring in 1977.
Mrs. Groan was an expert seamstress, homemaker, hard worker and great cook. Two of her greatest joys were working outside in the yard and flower garden and quilting. She made many quilts with the Tyrone Quilting Club and at her home. She would show her quilts to family and friends and donate her handiwork to charities and family.
She was a member of the Tyrone Assembly of God until it closed and attended the Midvale Pentecostal Holiness Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two infant twin sons, Keith and Kenneth; three brothers, Oral Aldridge, Delmar Aldridge and Dean Aldridge; a granddaughter and one great-granddaughter.
Surviving are her husband of 65 years of the home; three children, Almeda Maye Jones of Greer, S.C., Muriel Faye Smith of Willow Springs and Gary Dee Grogan of Fenton; one brother, Bobbie Joe Aldridge of Springfield; two sisters, Maxine Newberry of Rolla and Vernetta Swartz of Hisperia, Calif.; seven grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Services were Jan. 22 at the Bradford Funeral Home Chapel in Summersville with the Rev. Emmett Bradford and the Rev. Harold Smith officiating. Burial was in the Tyrone Cemetery.

Marion Benton Grogan, 91, second eldest of five children of Henry and Almeda Grogan, was born Jan. 8, 1915, in Texas County. He died Jan. 19, 2006, at Texas County Memorial Hospital in Houston.
He began working at age 11 to help support the family. He worked for many years at sawmills, was a carpenter and farmer.
He married Opal Marie Aldridge. They were married 65 years and had five children.
Mr. Grogan was a community servant, being one of the first on the scene following a fire or natural disaster. He served on the school board, helped dig graves by hand and helped in any way he could. He was a walking map and resident historian of Tyrone and the surrounding communities.
He enjoyed raising coon dogs, honeybee collecting and hunting for deer, coon and mushrooms. One of his favorite pastimes was reading.
He was preceded in death by his wife; infant twin sons, Keith and Kenneth; sisters, Goldie Perkins and Mary Jane Grogan; brother, Clifford Grogan; one granddaughter and one great-granddaughter.
Surviving are his children, Almeda Maye Grogan Jones of Greer, S.C., Muriel Faye Grogan Smith of Willow Springs and Gary Dee Grogan of Fenton; one brother, Gilbert of Torrance, Calif.; seven grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Services were Jan. 23 at the Bradford Funeral Home Chapel at Summersville with the Rev. Harold Smith officiating. Burial was in the Tyrone Cemetery.
