OBITUARY OF NANCY GOBBLE (Wife of John Gobble)
Fell Asleep - On Tuesday, the 12th, at Mr. John Proe's home, 4 miles south of Houston, Sister Nancy Gobble fell asleep in Christ, after a lingering & painful sickness of many weeks, & was buried at the Latimer graveyard on Elk Creek Thursday, the 14th. Sister Gobble, familiarly known as "Aunt Nancy", was born in Virginia Nov. 16, 1824, therefore at her death she was 90 years old, lacking 4 months & 2 days. (Note: The old family Bible gives birth & death dates of 16 Nov 1813 & 14 July 1904, respectively. JSG) She was the widow of Judge John Gobble, who died 13 years ago last January. Sister Gobble had been a christian & a member of the Christian church for 70 years & was always earnestly interested in the cause of Christ & was always ready to help the needy & do all the good she could. She was the mother of 11 children, nine of whom are still living, all but one in Texas County. She lived in Texas county about 33 years. After the death of her husband she made her home mostly with her daughter, Mrs. Proe. I have known Sister Gobble for 32 years, & do not remember of ever seeing her mad or hearing her speak an unkind word. Her life is worthy of imitation. We hope all her children, grandchildren & great grandchildren will live as good pure lives as she lived & be prepared to meet her in Heaven. We sorrow not as those who have no hope; we believe, in the sweet by & by, we will meet her on the other shore where sickness, pain & sorrow will be known no more. A mother in Israel has fallen, but she lived out her alloted time, & was like the ripe fruit, ready to be gathered for the Master. Farewell, dear sister, till we greet thee again. W.J. Frost.
