Loraine Farris Lindsey, 104, of Cabool, died Thursday, March 19, 2009, at the Kabul Nursing Home. She was born Aug. 14, 1904, in Corning, Ark., daughter of Sterling Price and Anna Adelia Jordan Lindsey.
She visited the World's Fair in St. Louis as a baby with her mother and grandmother. She enjoyed a close family relationship with her brothers and a sister. She was baptized at age 10 in a lake in Corning, Ark. After high school graduation in Corning, she attended and graduated from George Washington University in Washington, D.C. in 1937 with a bachelor's degree in education.
She taught elementary school in Forrest City, Ark., for 12 years. She took a one-year leave of absence from teaching to join her father at the Cabool State Bank, where she remained and retired in 1979 as executive vice president.
She was a longtime member of Cabool Christian Church. She was a charter member of the Cabool Women's Chamber of Commerce and member of the original board of directors of the Cabool Senior Housing, Cabool Study Club and the Cabool Art Club. She was elected "Town Lady of Cabool" in 1987.
She traveled many places with her sister, Mary. In the 1950s, they enjoyed a European tour, including sailing to England. They toured the Far East in the 1960s and returned to Europe in the 1980s. They also traveled to Australia and New Zealand.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Paul and Jordan; and a sister, Mary Elizabeth Lindsey.
Survivors include a brother, Bob; and multiple nieces, nephews, cousins, great nieces and nephews, friends and neighbors.
Services were Saturday, March 21, at Cabool Christian Church with Bro. Bob Martin officiating. Burial was in Cabool Cemetery under the direction of Elliott-Gentry-Carder Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to Cabool Christian Church.
