Mr. Bennie Carrol Cross, 65, passed away September 22, 2013 in Cape Girardeau, Mo. Born May 2, 1948 in Holland, Mo., he was the son of the late Floyd and Opal Inez Cross.
Bennie served his country in the U.S. Army, serving in Vietnam. He received the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Combat Infantry Badge, the Purple Heart, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal and a marksmanship medal for his service.
He was also preceded in death by one sister, Lucille Heathcock; one brother, Kenneth Cross; one niece, Vicky Cameron; and two nephews, Michael and Collin Cross.
Survivors incldue one sister, Sharon Robertson and her husband, Danny, of Steele; two brothers: Donald Cross of Cooter, Mo. and Billy Cross and his wife, Erma of Mountain Grove, Mo.; nieces and nephews, Leigh Ann Cross, Phillip Cross, Scotty Robertson, Lesa Evilsizor and Anthony Cross.
Services were conducted September 25, 2013 at the Powell Funeral Home Chapel in Steele, Mo., with the Rev. Rodney Presley officiating.
Burial followed in Mount Zion Cemetery in Steele.
Pallbearers included Will Woody, Bobby King, Matt Gillian, Rodney Pitts, Brian Kennedy and Virgil Flowers.
Powell Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
