MISS BELLE MARTIN DIES IN CONNECTICUT

Lived Here Over 50 Years; Body Being Brought Back.

Miss Belle Martin, who made her home in Kirksville with her brother, Dr. J. W. Martin for almost half a century, died this morning at the home of her niece, Mrs. Ruth Martin Shambaugh, in Westport, Conn., where she had been making her home since last fall. She had been in failing health for several years.

The body, accompanied by Mrs. Shambaugh, is being brought to Kirksville and is expected to arrive here Wednesday morning at 2 o'clock. Funeral arrangements had not been made today.

Miss Martin was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Martin and was born in Randolph County, Missouri. Later the family moved to Macon County. When her brother, Dr. J. W. Martin, was married she went to make her home with him and his wife and she continued to live with him until last fall when, because of failing health, it was decided best for them to break up their home and go live with the doctor's children for whom Miss Martin had cared after the death of Mrs. Martin in 1903. Dr. Martin went to Drumwright, Okla., to live with his son, Dr. Howard Martin, and family, and Miss Martin went to Westport to live with Mrs. Shambaugh and her family.

Miss Martin had been a member of the Presbyterian Church for many years and was one of the most faithful workers in the church here as long as her health permitted.

She leaves her brother, Dr. J. W. Martin, her niece, Mrs. D. A. Shambaugh, and two nephews, Dr. Howard Martin, of Drumwright, Okla., and Dr. Walter Martin, of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, besides relatives in Macon and Randolph counties.
