Ray W. Kellogg was born Sept. 15, 1875, in Wayne Co., Pa, When he was five years of age his parents moved to Missouri, on the farm where they now live, and where the remainder of his life was spent. He graduated from the Kirksville high school and was taking a course in the State Normal when he was taken sick, and because of failing health was obliged to abandon further work in the school. For the past twelve years he has been in poor health, but not until about two years ago did his sickness confine him to the place. Since then he has been able to be at town but a few times. Yet during all his sickness he has been hopeful, and was looking forward to better days. Even as late as last summer he was hoping for permanent relief from his sickness, and for a time seemed to improve, but it was only temporary. Three years ago he united with the Christian church, and so long as he was able attended the services faithfully. He was seldom absent from the Endeavor meetings, which he loved so well. During his sickness he has been a constant reader, and had improved the opportunity of soul and mind culture. In the midst of his sufferings he has not been without that hope that sustains more than the arm of flesh. An evening or two before his death he sang, "Lead me Savior, Lead me all the way." When asked what he wanted, he answered: "Peace and good will toward all men." And again he said: "Rest, perfect rest." He has entered into that rest that remaineth for the children of God. He died, surrounded by his loved ones, on Jan. 8, at 12 m [sic], 1907. And was laid to rest by the side of his little brother in Forest cemetery on the afternoon of Jan. 10. He leaves four brothers, one sister, father, mother and other relatives to remember him for the quiet and unassuming life he has lived. Services were conducted by his pastor, Rev. Wickizer.
