Stanley “Stan” James, 58, of Brashear, Missouri, passed away Tuesday morning (September 23, 2008) at his home under the care of Hospice.

The son of Walter L. and Zella F. (Wolf) James, he was born December 22, 1949 in Kirksville, Missouri. On July 27, 2004 in Kirksville, Missouri, Stan was united in marriage to Jane Billington who survives.

Stan is also survived by his step-mother, Minnie James of Kirksville, MO; one step-son, Jerry “J.B.” Billington of Kirksville, MO; two step-daughters, Lynn Love and husband Harold and Lisa Yantis all of Kirksville, MO; one brother, Lonnie “Rod” James of Novinger, MO; and three sisters, Lois Pinkerton and husband Terry of LaPlata, MO, Beverly Barrett and husband Charlie of Kirksville, MO and Amanda James also of Kirksville, MO. He is also survived by eight step grandchildren, Chelli and Justin Cima, Cassi Yantis, Cara Covey, Myra Billington, Sara Billington, Shawnee Williams, Dusty Billington and Bronson Love; three step great-grandchildren, Kyleigh, Jayden and Aiden; two nieces Brandi Simmons and husband Randy and Angie Hays and husband Michael; one great niece, Ashtyn Hays; one great nephew, Shad Hays and several cousins.

Stan was preceded in death by his parents and two infant brothers.

Stan was a graduate of Brashear High School with the Class of 1968. He was an over the road truck driver for several years before going into business for himself as a carpenter until he was forced to retire due to his illness three years ago. Stan was known for his honesty, dependability and hard work. He loved working in his shop on tractors and doing things for others. Several would gather sharing jokes and stories. Stan loved spending time with family and friends and was always very supportive. He was loved very much and will be sadly missed.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday (September 27, 2008) at Travis-Noe Funeral Home in Kirksville, with Reverend Darrell Draper officiating. Interment will follow the service at Jewell Cemetery, northwest of Kirksville.

Public visitation will be held Friday (September 26, 2008) with family receiving friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the chapel of Travis-Noe Funeral Home in Kirksville.

Casket bearers will be Lonnie Magruder, Herb Anderson, Mike Hays, Ronald Parson, Bob Kirkpatrick and Kenny Barnes. Honorary bearers will be Clifford Fix, Jerry Waddle, Randy Simmons, Leroy Scott, Jeff Waddle, Charlie Sullivan and Justin Cima.
