James M. Earls was born April 6, 1875 in Greenfield, Tenn., and passed away in death near Steele, Mo., May 25th, 1933, at the age of 58 years, 1 month and 19 days.
He was married to Mrs. Ida Carter on March 4, 1903 and in 1911 they removed to this county to make their home near Steele. To this union was born five sons,: Cletus, Aubrey, Leyon, Arther and Cecil. There are also two step sons, Henry and Hoyt Carter, sons of Mrs Earls by a former marriage.
All of the above surviving children, his wife and constant companion, also his brother, Alvin T. Earls, were at his bedside when death came. About three hours before death came, Mr. Earls called his wife and whispered that he was going. Mr. Earls had been ill for several months, suffering with cancer of the throat.
Perhaps no man was wider known in the county than Mr. Earls, as he was in public life, being proprietor of the Earls Motor Company. He was a fine business man and held the esteem of those who knew him.
The deceased also has two sisters: Mrs. Mattie Melton of Marlow Okla., and Mrs. Minnie Cantrell of McKenzie, Tenn., three grandchildren, Dorothy, Anna Marie and Marie Louise, children of Mr. and Mrs. Cletus Earls, and Glenda and Bobby Gene Carter, children of Mr. and Mrs. Hoyt Carter, and Geneva Carter of Blytheville and Barbara Anna, children of Henry Carter.
Funeral services were held this morning at 10 o'clock at Steele, conducted by the Rev. D.K. Foster of this city, who spoke fitting words of the departed life of the deceased, comforting his bereaved relatives. A host of friends were in attendance, many of whom were from this city, and there were many floral offerings showing the esteem in which he was held by his friends and relatives.

Mrs. Ida Lee Earls, 55, died suddenly Saturday morning at the home of her son, Aubrey, in this city. She had been ill a few days the past two weeks, but had apparently recovered from her illness. Her being stricken so suddenly was attributed to heart trouble.
Mrs. Earls was widow of the late Jim Earls, who died last May 25th. The Earls family was one of south Pemiscot county's early settlers and were always active in its development and progress. In the death of Mrs. Earls the community loses a good citizen and the family a devoted and loving mother.
Mrs. Ida Lee Earls was born August 9, 1878 near Greenfield, Tenn., and died March 17, 1834 age 55 years, 7 months, and 8 days. She ws married in 1897 to Alonzo Carter. To this union two sons, Hoyt and Henry, were born. Mr. Carter died in 1901. In 1903 she was married to James M. Earls. To this union was born seven children, a son and daughter dying in infancy. Five sons survive. Mr. and Mrs. Earls moved to this county in 1911. At an early age Mrs. Earls joined the Baptist church and was a member of the local church.
The survivors are the seven sons, Hoyt and Henry Carter, Cletus, Aubrey, Leyon, Ather and Cecil Earls, 9 grandchildren, Geneva, Pauline, Barbara Ann, Roy Lee, children of Henry Carter, Galena and Bobby Jean, children of Hoyt Carter, Dorothy, Anna Marie and Mary Louise, children of Cletus Earls, three sisters, Mrs. Ada Davis, her twin sister, Mrs. Laura Yates and Mrs. Lizzie Stephens, all of Tennessee.
Funeral services were held Monday morning at the Baptist church conducted by Rev. D.K. Foster, pastor of the Caruthersville Baptist church, assisted by the local pastor, Rev. A.B. Sadler. With the German Undertaking Co. in charge, interment was made in the Mt. Zion cemetery.
The Enterprise joins the entire community in extending sympathy to the bereaved family.
