Kirksville, Mo. — Charles B. "Buzz" Adams, 76 of Aventura, Florida, formerly of Kirksville passed away Monday (October 4, 2010) in Aventura, Florida.

Buzz was born on January 1, 1934 in Kirksville the son of Charlie L. and Maudie Sarah (McDowell) Adams. On August 19, 1956 in Moulton, IA, he was united in marriage to Shirley Dye who preceded him in death on March 14, 2001. On February 16, 2003 in Fort Lauderdale, FL he was united in marriage to Lea Leibowitz.

Buzz is survived by his wife, Lea; one son, John Adams and wife, Julie of South Barrington, IL; one daughter, Debi Boughton and husband, Chuck of Kirksville; two sisters, Charline Wineteer and husband, Gary of Columbia, MO and Judy Alger and husband, Norman of Birmingham, AL; eight grandchildren, Jenny Beckmeyer and husband, Kyle, Adam and Sarah Boughton, William, Benjamin, Bianca, Amanda and Anabelle Adams; one great-grandchild, Chloe Kelly and three step-daughters, Kim Salazar and husband, Fernando of Arlington, MA, Robin Drao and husband, Richard of Lexington, NY and Lauren Duffey and husband, Terry of North Miami Beach, FL.

Buzz was raised in Kirksville where he attended the Kirksville schools graduating from the Kirksville Senior High School with the Class of 1951. While attending Truman State University he had his education interrupted to serve in the United States Army from March 3, 1953 to May 25, 1956. After serving in the Army, he returned to Truman State University and graduated in 1957. He then enrolled in law school at the University of Missouri and graduated in 1962. He returned to Kirksville to practice law until his retirement in 2004. While practicing law he served as the Adair County Prosecuting Attorney and Kirksville City Attorney. After his retirement he moved to Florida.

Buzz was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, a 50 year member of Adair Lodge #366 A.F. & A.M., Kirksville York Rite Bodies, Moila Temple and a member and past president of the El Kadir Shrine Club. He was also a member of the Missouri Bar Association and Adair County Bar Association. Buzz was instrumental with the beginning of the Adair County Nursing Home (now Twin Pines Adult Care Center) where he served on the board and as the nursing home lawyer for many years. He was a past member of the noon Rotary Club, Saddle Club, CCC Investment Club, Grim-Smith Hospital Board, the Kirksville Country Club Board and the Sigma Tau Gamma Fraternity. He was very involved with the Boy Scouts having served as a Scout Master and had received the Silver Beaver Award and the Note Worthy Service and Exceptional Service to Youth Award. He was a member of the Round Table of Lunch Bunch and the Williams Island Tennis Club of Aventura, FL.

The family would like to thank Dawega Green, Oliver Kerr and Lynette Lee who were the devoted nurses that had cared for Buzz.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday (October 9, 2010) at the First Presbyterian Church with the Reverend John Dungan officiating. Interment with Military Rites will be in the Maple Hills Cemetery in Kirksville.

Pallbearers will be Jim Gardner, Larry Gardner, Larry Whitney, Frank Wayman, Bruce Collier and Mac McCord.

The family will greet friends from 1:00 p.m. Saturday until the time of the service at the First Presbyterian Church.

Memorials are suggested to the Charles B. Adams Scholarship at Truman State University or the Miami Jewish Health System.
