Funeral services for Pvt. Donald R. Baldwin, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph L. Baldwin of near Hurdland, who was killed in action July 22, 1944, at Afua, New Guniea, were held at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon, June 29, at the Easley Funeral Home in Hurdland. The Rev. T. W. Jolly, pastor of the Kirksville Christian Church, conducted the services. T-Sgt. Leo D. McCrite was the military escort coming with the body.

Burial was in the Maple Hills Cemetery at Kirksville with military rites at the grave conducted by Knox County Memorial Post 4822, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Cyril A. Graham Post 261 of the American Legion. Taps was played by Thomas Browning of Knox City, who was assisted by Bruce Welch and Byram Shannon of Edina.

Pvt. Baldwin was born Nov. 23, 1924, southeast of Edina. He moved with his parents to a farm near Hurdland in 1940, attending high school at Hurdland and graduating there with the class of 1943, and took Basic Training at Camp Roberts, Calif. He came home on a furlough in April 1944, and was sent overseas with Co. L., 127th Infantry, about May 1 that year.

Surviving Pvt. Baldwin are his father and mother, and a brother, Wilbur W., at home, and both grandfathers, Robert Ray of Leonard and Fred Baldwin of Edina, and a step grandmother, Mrs. Fred Baldwin, and a number of uncles and aunts.
