James Ardie Brown, 66, died September 29, 1982, at the Chickasawba Hospital in Blytheville. He was a retired construction worker, and he served as fire chief in Steele for 20 years. Mr. Brown was a member of the Baptist Church in Steele.

He was born November 29, 1915 in Steele, the son of the late George Brown and Minnie Ward Brown. He was united in marriage September 9, 1935, to Ruby Hopper in Caruthersville.

He leaves his wife, Mrs. Ruby Brown of Steele; one son, James Brown of Steele; four sisters, Mrs. Ada Osborne of Memphis, Mrs. Beatrice Johnson of Memphis, Mrs. Bertha Moyer of Caruthersville, and Mrs. Jackie Welch of Jamaica; one brother, Bill Brown of Memphis; three granddaughters, Mrs. Karen Harris of Steele, Mrs. Libby Howell of Steele, and Paige Brown of Steele; one great-grandson, Ronnie Howell, Jr.; and one great-granmddaughter, Blair Harris of Steele.

Pallbearers were Jessie Edwards, Johnnie Carter, J.W. Rinehart, Howard Smith, Ronnie Howell, and Richard Harris.

Funeral services were held Friday, October 1, 1982, at the First Baptist Church in Steele. Rev. Billy Skinner officiated. Burial was in the Mount Zion Cemetery near Steele with the John W. German Funeral Home of Steele in charge.

Mrs. Ruby Brown Erwin, 74, of Steele, Mo. died Saturday, January 22, 1994, at the Columbia Regional Hospital in Columbia, Mo.
Daughter of the late Elmer T. Hopper and Ola A. Rogers, she was born July 22, 1919 at Steele and was a lifelong resident.
Mrs. Erwin was a member of the Steele First Baptist Church.
On December 9, 1989 at Caruthersville, Mo., she was united in marriage with Charles Erwin.
Mrs. Erwin leaves her husband, Charles Erwin, of Steele; A son and daughter-in-law, James and Carolyn Brown, of Columbia; One sister, Mrs. Myrtie Walton, of Atlanta, Ga.; Three grandchildren; and Eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mrs. Erwin were held Wednesday, January 26, 1994, at the First Baptist Church in Steele with Rev. Michael Funderburk officiating.
Burial was at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Steele with arrangements by John W. German Funeral Home of Steele.
