Edgar DeVaughn, well known resident of Steele for many years, died suddenly from a heart attack at his home Thursday morning at 6:15. Mr. DeVaughn had been convalescing from a case of influenza which he had approximately three weeks ago and from which he had apparently recovered. At that time it was discovered that he also had a heart ailment but it was not believed to have been so serious. He was 52.

He was born in Baldwyn, Lee County, Miss., although he spent most of his life in Prentiss County until he moved to Steele in 1931. He drove a taxi here until two years ago. Mrs. DeVaughn is owner of the Central Hotel.

He was a member of the Baptist Church and the Odd Fellows Lodge.

Plans for the services were incomplete Thursday, however, they were planned for Friday at New Baptist Church in Pontotoc, Miss.

Survivors include his wife, one daughter, Louise; one son James; a step son, A.P. Wilburn, all of Steele; his father J.L. DeVaughn of Covington, Tenn.; three sisters, Mrs. Hulen Miller, Mrs. Neeley Holcomb of Covington and Mrs. Lee Taylor of Kennett and one brother, H.T. DeVaughn, Covington.
