James Edgar "Bully" DeVaughn was born July 4, 1923, at Covington, Tenn., and died May 24, 1986 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center at the age of 62.

Mr. DeVaughn had served as Police Judge for the City of Steele for 12 years; as a bus driver of South Pemiscot School System; and had been a truck driver. He also served in the Army during World War II. He was the son of the late Edgar DeVaughn and Modena Johnson DeVaughn.

His sister Louise DeVaughn and step brother, Pete Wilbur, preceded him in death.

He leaves the following: two sons, David DeVaughn of Denton, Texas and Mark DeVaughn of Steele, and a daughter, Tina DeVaughn of Steele; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Shelia Van Gilder of Cleveland, Ohio; a niece, Mrs. Kay Wilbur Hicks of Steele and three grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 27, 1986 at 2 p.m. at the John W. German Funeral Home in Steele, with Rev. James F. McCrary and Rev. Billy Skinner officiating.

Burial was in the Mt. Zion Cemetery at Steele, John W. German Funeral Home of Steele in charge.

Pallbearers were Joe Stegall, Bobby Coleman, Eddie Rinehart, Johnnie Carter, Eddie Gilbert and Jack Hatley. Honorary pallbearers were J.W. Rinehart and David Gist.
