Funeral service for Mr. Walter P. Bumpus was held at the John W. German Funeral Home in Steele. Rev. Jim Russell officiated.
Mr. Bumpus was born June 13, 1893 at Chickasawba Hospital in Blytheville, Ark. He was 87.
He was a retired farmer, a veteran of World War I, and a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 88 of Caruthersville, Mo.
Mr. Bumpus was the son of the late Austin Potter Bumpus and Mary Frances Kearney. He was united in marriage to Norzee Northern. She preceded him in death in 1966.
He leaves one son, Joe Bumpus, of Steele; one daughter, Mrs. Ruth Swosinski of Branford, Fla.; four granddaughter and five great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Paul Fowler, Guy Channell, Waymon Boast, Bruce Cheeck, Phillip Koury, and Reginald Watkins.
Burial was in the Mt. Zion Cemetery at Steele with the John W. German Funeral Home of Steele in charge of arrangements. Blytheville Air Force Base had charge of graveside services.
