Funeral services were conducted by Elder Thomas C. Whitfield, pastor, assisted by Rev. J. W. Cunningham, pastor of the local Baptist Church. Burial was made in the Mt. Zion Cemetery.

Charles Jackson McDaniel, son of E. C. and Lou McDaniel was born at Chesterville, Miss.,June 21, 1866, and died at his home in Steele on June 5, 1942, at the age of 75 years, 11 months and 16 days.

He was married to Lillian Drake in Pontotoc, Miss., December 15, 1887. To this union was born seven children. Two preceding him in death, leaving to mourn his passing his beloved wife, Mrs. Lillian McDaniel; three sons and two daughters, namely Mrs. Leona Spain, of Jackson, Miss., Mrs. Myrtle Hodges of Tacopola, Miss., Starr McDaniel of Hayti, Carl McDaniel of Lilbourn, and Noel McDaniel of Steele. Two brothers, Dr. J. R. McDaniel of Steele, and Sam McDaniel of Oklahoma City, Okla.,13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends mourn his passing.

He professed faith in Christ at the age of 13, and joined the Missionary Baptist Church at the age of 61. After moving to Missouri he and his wife united with the Church of Christ in 1929, and lived a devoted member until death. He was once a member of the Masonic and Woodmen Lodges but was not active in his declining years.

Mr. McDaniel was always a very busy man, farming and raising livestock. His farm hobby was pretty horses of which he owned numbers of them during his lifetime, and remembered the names of all his favorite steeds.

He loved his home and was never away, only on business. He made a good living and was very thoughtful of his family, which always came first in his love. He never owned anything too good for his neighbors, and would help them if he had to do without himself.

He had had a lawsuit or a fight in his life. He stood for the right, regardless of how it affected him, was not selfish, very free-hearted and lived a clean life, and died without owing any man. His favorite song was "I'll Be Satisfied When I Meet the Ransomed on the Golden Shore."

A very close friend of Mr. McDaniel in writing his memoir says, "thus passed on to glory a good man."
