Donald Vest Strong, 16, was killed instantly about 11:00 Monday night when his car crashed a National Alfalfa Dehydrating and Milling Company truck and trailer in front of the MFA Service Station at the south city limits on Business Route 61.
The youth was alone in the car, a 1954 Ford, however he had been with two other youths earlier in the evening, stopping at the Ark-Mo. State Line and in Holland.
The car was demolished and the alfalfa truck badly damaged. A front tire from the truck rolled some 250 feet and wedged upright under a lumber trailer.
The alfalfa truck was pulling an empty four wheel trailer from the mill to a field. It was driven by Floyd Barger of Cooter.
Donald was born in Kennett on July 18, 1942. He had lived in the Steele community for the past ten years.
Funeral services were held from Steele Church of Christ Thursday, April 23, Mr. Walter Lompkin of Holland officiating. Burial was in Mt. Zion Cemetery with the John W. German Funeral Home of Steele in charge of services.
Pallbearers were Calvin Gross, Charles Spencer, Charles Pfeffer, Richard Stewart, Randall DePriest and Virgil Funderburk.
Survivors are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Louis V. Strong, residing on Smith Street; a sister, Mrs. Annice Sue Davis of Wynne, Arkansas; grandmother, Mrs. Louise Cook and great grandfather, John Cook, both of Millersville, Missouri.
