Funeral services were held Thursday, December 17, 1981, at 2:00 p.m. at the Holly Grove Baptist Church in Cooter for Mrs. Leona Strong. Rev. Joe Smith and Rev. David Hart officiated.
Mrs. Strong was born June 20, 1911 in Trenton, Tennessee, and died December 15, 1981 at Baptist Hospital in Memphis.
She was the daughter of the late Dorsey and Ada Copeland Hollingsworth.
She was united in marriage to James Strong August 4, 1934. He preceded her in death May 30, 1977.
Mrs. Strong leaves one daughter, Mary Barger; one grandson, Eddy Barger; a son-in-law, Charles Barger; one sister, Mrs. Leater McDaniel; and one brother, Charles Hollingsworth, all of Cooter.
Pallbearers were her nephews: Buddy Childers, Reg Udouj, Bruce McSwain, Harold Dunn, Paul Strong and Hughie Bond.
Burial was in the Mt. Zion Cemetery near Steele with the John W. German Funeral Home of Steele in charge.

Funeral services were held June 1, 1977 at the Holly Grove Baptist Church in Cooter for James L. Strong, 65, who died May 30 at Pemiscot Medical Center in Hayti. The Rev. Joe Smith and Rev. David Hart officiated.
Mr. Strong was born September 8, 1911 in Cooter.
A veteran of World War II, Mr. Strong was a recipient of the Purple Heart, and was a member of American Legion Post 88 in Caruthersville. He was a member of the Holly Grove Baptist Church in Cooter.
The son of the late Frank and Lillie Wilson Strong, he was united in marriage to Leona Hollingsworth at Caruthersville on August 4, 1934, and to this union was born one daughter.
He leaves his wife, Mrs. Leona Strong of the home; a daughter, Mrs. Mary Helen Barger of Cooter; a grandson, Eddie Barger of Cooter; his son-in-law, Charles Barger; two sisters, Mrs. Lettie Joiner of Cape Girardeau and Mrs. Bernie Stow of Hayti; and a brother, Paul Strong of Cape Girardeau.
Pallbearers were B.F. Rogers, J.B. Poteet, Charles Ervin, Adrain Alexander, Phillip Koury, and Lyman Cunningham.
Honorary pallbearers were members of the American Legion Post 88.
Burial was in Mt. Zion Cemetery in Steele with the John W. German Funeral Home of Steele in charge of arrangements.
