Funeral service for Ellen Elizabeth Owens were held Friday, Oct. 6, 1972 at 2 p.m. at the Temple Baptist Church in Caruthersville with Rev. Malcolm Samples officiating.
Interment was in Mt. Zion Cemetery at Steele, Mo. with John W. German Funeral Home of Hayti in charge of services.
She was born March 10, 1907 at Jackson, Tenn. and died Oct. 4, 1972 at the Pemiscot Memorial Hospital in Hayti, age 65 years, 6 months and 24 days of age.
Mrs. Owens was the daughter of the late Fred and Susan Nannie. She was united in marriage to Hugh Neely Owens Jan. 9, 1920 at Jackson, Tenn. and to this union was born 13 children. Four children preceded her in death.
Mrs. Owens was a member of the Temple Baptist Church at Caruthersville.
She leaves the following to mourn her passing, husband, Neely Owens of Caruthersville; 5 daughters Mrs. Leora Monroe of St. Louis, Mrs. Lucille Rhoads of Steele, Mrs. Laladean Jones of O'Fallon, Mo.; Mrs. Mattie Sue Cowger of Grand Blanc, Mich.; and Mrs. Patricia Morton of Steele; 4 sons Jerry Owens of Golden, Miss., James Owens of Flint, Mich. and Frank and Ersil Owens of O'Fallon, Mo. and a brother J.R. Nannie of Halls, Tenn. and other friends and relatives.

Funeral services for Hugh Neely Owens were conducted Tuesday, September 30, 1975 in the John W. German Funeral Home Chapel at 10:00 a.m. The Rev. Jim Malone of Memphis and the Rev. Alvin McGill of Caruthersville officiated.

Mr. Owens was born March 10, 1897 in Kentucky to the late Fred and Mattie Owens. He died September 27, 1975 at the Barnes Hospital in St. Louis at the age of 78.

Mr. Owens was married to Ellen Elizabeth Nannie in Jackson, Tenn., on January 9, 1920, and to this union were born 13 children, four of whom preceded him in death. Mrs. Owens died October 4, 1972.

He leaves four sons: Jerry Owens, Golden, Miss.; James Owens, Flint, Mich.; Frank Owens, O'Fallon, Mo.; and Ersil Owens, St. Peters, Mo.; five daughters: Leora Monroe, St. Louis; Lucille Rhoades and Patricia Morton, both of Steele, Laladean Jones, O'Fallon; and Mattie Sue Cowger, Grand Blanc, Mich.; one brother, Elmer Owens, Dyersburg, Tenn.; 30 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Interment was in Mt. Zion Cemetery at Steele with the John W. German Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers were Harold Rhoades, Garlin Jones, Joe Morton, George Cowger, Wayne Lafferty and John Ferguson.
