Gary Lynn Wake, a lifelong resident of Willow Springs, passed away the morning of Sunday, October 8th, 2017. He was born in Mtn. Grove, MO on June 21, 1950 to Arlin and June (Havens) Wake.
Gary grew up in Willow Springs and attended the local school until he started working in the family logging business. He was drafted into the United States Army at age 19 and served a 2 year tour in Vietnam. Upon returning home he continued to work at the family business with his dad and three brothers. On September 1, 1972 he married the love of his life, Connie Tooley. To this union one daughter was born. Gary and Connie remained happily married for the next 45 years.
Gary was a one of a kind; he was loved by many and hated by none. He never met a stranger and was always ready to talk. He was the first to jump in and help and the last to leave someone in need. He was a very hard working husband and father, his family never needed for anything because of his over the top work ethic. Early on, his passions included fishing, camping and playing the banjo. He spent countless weekends fishing with his nephews and teaching them the love of the outdoors. After his logging accident he became very passionate about his banjo and woodworking. There is a very good chance that his handcrafted wood pieces can be found in homes throughout the Ozarks. Hands down his greatest love was his family. He lived to spoil his daughter and 2 granddaughters, Emily and Madelyn. He referred to his wife, daughter and granddaughters as “his girls” quite often and never let his disabilities get in the way of providing for them. He had a heart that was full of love and didn't think twice when he was asked to welcome his son in law Brody into the family 21 years ago. His love for bluegrass music brought many lifelong friends into his life and a true bond that stood the test of time. His kind, loving and positive spirit will never be forgotten.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents Arlin and June Wake, grandparents and mother in law Erma Tooley.
He is survived by his wife Connie of Willow Springs; his daughter, Brooke and husband, Brody; two granddaughters, Emily and Madelyn Fair all of Willow Springs. He is further survived by his brothers, Richard and wife, Pat Wake; Rick and wife, Glenda Wake and Allen Wake also all of Willow Springs. Many nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Mr. Wake will be held Tuesday, October 10, 2017 at 11:00 AM at the Willow Funeral Home with Pastor Jeff Conger officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the commencement of the service. Burial will follow at the Willow Springs City Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Willow Funeral Home. On-line condolences may be left at www.willowspringsfuneralhome.com
