Jerry Dean "JD" Cavener passed away after a long illness at his home, May 13, 2006, at the age of 68. He was born August 2, 1937, in Walnut Grove, Missouri, the son of Cleo and Mabel (Martin) Cavener. JD was united in marriage to Phyllis Bullington on April 11, 1969, and to this union was born two children, Melinda and Gary. They raised their family in Republic for 34 years. He retired from Springfield City Utilities water department in 1999 after 36 years of service. JD enjoyed winters in Texas, drinking coffee with the old timers and talking with his camping buddies. JD will most be remembered for the love he had for his grandchildren. They were the light of his life. JD was preceded in death by his father, Cleo Cavener; a sister, Julie Cavener; and a brother, Bill Cavener.

He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Phyllis, Republic; a daughter and husband, Melinda and Daniel Lohkamp, Nixa; a son and wife, Gary and Jennifer Cavener, Republic; five grandchildren, Amanda, Joshua and Hannah Lohkamp, all of Nixa, and Tyler and Jordan Cavener, both of Republic; his mother, Mabel Cavener; five brothers and their spouses, Dale and Louise Cavener, Ray and Sandra Cavener, Denzel and Pat Cavener, Tom and Janet Cavener, Jim and Judy Cavener; three sisters, Marge Cavener, Shirley Shoemaker and husband, Denny, and Linda Crowe and husband Larry; many cousins, nieces and nephews; and many friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 17, 2006, at Calvary Baptist Church, Republic, with Rev. Mike Green officiating, under the direction of Meadors Funeral Homes, Republic. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery, Crane.
