OLD-TIME WHEATON CITIZEN DIES:
James D. Wooten, an old and respected citizen of the county, died at his home in Wheaton, June 19, 1928. His death came suddenly. He was born in Bradley County, Tennessee February 15, 1836. He was 92 years, 4 months, and 4 days old. He came to this county with his parents when a young man and had resided here a greater part of his life. He was married to Mary M. Price when a young man. To this union six children were born, four of whom with his wife preceded him in death, those surviving him are, Mrs. Mary C. Yarnall of Exeter, MO and Horace Wooten also of Exeter, MO. He was later married to Mrs. Mary Hackwith, who also survives him. He was converted at an early age and united with the United Methodist Church. He was a Lieutenant in the Southern Army and only one member of his Company is now living, who is Jack McCary. He held the office of assessor and sheriff of Barry County. He leaves his wife, son and daughter, a number of grandchildren, one great-great grandchild and a host of other relatives and friends to mourn his passing. Funeral services were conducted at the Concord Church Wednesday afternoon June 20, by Rev. Chas. Vanzandt and burial made in the Concord Cemetery.
