James - Cassville Democrat, May 10, 1919 - ?God touched him with his finger, and he slept,? the poet wrote. So may we say of this good life, that was plucked by the Death Angel, when a beautiful life was closed, a noble example of patience, fidelity to truth and faith were given and not until visions of a heavenly life, in Jesus Christ, had cheered and illumined valley of the shadow. Now that he sleeps, memory takes up the harp of life, and smiting the strings, finds that his virtues melt into Godly music. So it ever is, when a life is nobly and divinely lived. We can add nothing in words to the splendid life that he lived, but only to recommend it, as being worthy of following in his footsteps, that leads to that beautiful land somewhere. He had given his life to the service of God and his reward will be great in the mansions above. J. W. Ennis was born in Washington county, Ark., April 6, 1851 and in 1865, his parents moved to this county, and at the age of 18 years, he was converted and joined the M. P. church and began preaching at the age of 21 years, which he continued thru life. On Oct. 29, 1871, he and Miss Martha Thornhill were married and to this union were born, nine children, seven of whom are living and were with him in his last hours. His wife preceded him to the glory land some four years before. He told his relatives that his work was finished and he would feel better beyond the grave. His children surviving him are; John of Butterfield, Ollie of Monett, Mrs. Albert Reynolds, Parsons Kansas, Mrs. Elsey Smith, Mrs. Jas. Chapman, Mrs. J. W. Sharp and Miss Alice at home near Cassville. He left four brothers Fred, Cato; Miles, Hailey; Dow, Cassville; and Willis, Whitten, Ark., and one sister Mrs. Jane Hall, Mineral Spring. Rev. J. E. Stribbling of near Monett and Rev. Francis Goodnight of Purdy, conducted funeral services at the late home Wednesday afternoon, where a large number of relatives and sympathizing friends had assembled to pay their last tribute of love and respect for this good man that had fallen. The remains were intered in Ennis Cemetery near his home.

Martha - Cassville Republican, March 25, 1915 - Another Mother Passes Away: Mrs. Martha Permelia Ennes, wife of Rev. J. W. Ennes, who resides in the Forest Grove locality, died at two o'clock Sunday morning, March 21, 1915, of pneumonia. Mrs. Ennes had suffered about ten days with the illness which ended her life. Pneumonia followed a severe attack of lagrippe and her ailments became quite serious from the beginning. She was born March 17, 1854. On October 19, 1871 she was married to J. W. Ennes. To them were born nine children, two having died in infancy, seven survive. They are: Mrs. J. W. Sharp of Forest Grove, John Ennes of Butterfield, Mrs. J. H. Chapman of Minden Mines, Mo., Mrs. Albert Reynolds of Montana, Kan., Mrs. E. H. Smith of Springfield and Miss Alice at home. All the children were here to attend the funeral. Mrs. Ennes was a member of the Methodist Protestant Church and was a woman who in every sense of the word lived up to the tenets of the Golden Rule. She was a most excellent woman, wife and mother and in her death, the vicinity has lost one of its most honored citizens. Her friends were always number by her acquaintance. Funeral services were conducted at the home Monday afternoon by Rev. Stribling of Monett. Her body was laid to rest in the Ennes Cemetery.
