Rutholene Elkins
Rutholene Elkins, devoted Christian, wife, mother and grandmother, age 82 , passed from this life on Thursday, Oct. 14, 2004, at a local nursing home following an illness.

Rutholene was born on Jan. 21, 1922, east of Wheaton, Mo., on the farm
her parents owned, Otis and Cora Garrison Brattin. Rutholene graduated from the Wheaton High School in 1939. She was a member of the Church of Christ, since obeying the gospel at the age of 13. She attended the 26th and Connecticut congregation in Joplin. She was married to Quannah L. Elkins on June 21, 1941, at Monett, Mo. He preceded her in death on Feb. 25, 1991.

Rutholene lived in the Wheaton area until 1965. She lived in San Diego, Calif., for 21 years. She did domestic work and owned and managed apartm ents with her husband. They moved to Webb City in 1986. She was an auxiliary member at Freeman Health Systems and the Southwest Missouri Renta l Housing Association.

She is survived by three sons, Carl Elkins, of Joplin, Don Elkins, of Neosho, Mo., and Loy Elkins of Jasper, Mo.; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Lora Decocq, Ercie Huffman and Vinita Spencer.

Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 21, at the 26th and Connecticut Church of Christ. Don Deffenbaugh will officiate. Burial of ashes will be in Rocky Comfort Cemetery following the service.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Fairhavens Childrens Home in care of the funeral home.

Arrangements are under the direction of Mason-Woodard Mortuary.
