James Martin Farris, the son of Walter and Retta Maude (Masters) Farris, was born September 15, 1938 at Hilham, Tennessee. He passed away on Saturday, October 10, 2020 at his home in Hartshorn, Missouri at the age of 82 years and 25 days.
James was united in marriage to Patrica Marie Pelc in White Church, Missouri on September 28, 1963. To their union three children were born, Cynthia Lynn, Andrew Martin and Michelle Lea.
James faithfully served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam era and was always proud of his service.
James was a meticulous woodworker and master gardener, many family members and friends received the fruits of his labor. He worked as a millwright at General Motors in Dayton, Ohio for 28 years until he retired. He then moved to Hartshorn in 1995 where he spent his time tending to the cattle, working in his garden and making numerous wooden works of art.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Retta Maude Farris.
James is survived by his wife, Patricia; his children, Cynthia Brown, Andrew Farris and Michelle Niswonger; grandchildren, Levi, Kyle and Kelsey Niswonger; Katheryn, Jessica and Rebecca Crane; Lauren, Miranda and Elijah Farris; Kylie and Alex Beckett; great-grandchildren, Braxton and Emelia Lipscomb; as well as his sister, Ruth Smith.
James will be dearly missed by all that knew and loved him.
Patricia Marie (Pelc) Farris, age 80 of Dayton, Ohio, formerly of Missouri, passed away on Sunday, September 24, 2023. On September 28, 1963, she was married at White Church, Missouri, to James Martin Farris.
Mrs. Farris enjoyed sewing and quilting and was an avid rock collector. She was a livestock and horse 4-H advisor in Preble County, Ohio, for 20 years; worked as a Preble County, Ohio, Humane Officer for 5 years & worked at the Animal Shelter there. She was a member of Gammil Gem Club for almost 20 years. She later was a member of the sewing club in Missouri for over 20 years.
She is survived by: 3 children; 1) Michelle Niswonger, 2) Cynthia (Dave) Brown, and 3) Andrew (Dee) Farris; and, 11 grandchildren; Kyle, Kelsey & Levi Niswonger, Katheryn, Jessica & Rebecca Crane, Eli, Miranda & Lauren Farris, Alex Beckett & Kyle Cooper; 2 great-grandchildren, Braxton & Emilia Lipscomb; 4 brothers, Jim, George, Joe & Mike Pelc; & 4 sisters, Shirley Baria, Rosie Hergesheimer, Barbara Pelc and Margaret Poe; & many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, & 8 (5 brothers & 3 sisters) of her 16 siblings.
Funeral services will be held at the Robertson-Drago Funeral Home in West Plains, Missouri. Interment will be at Howell Memorial Park in West Plains, Missouri. The Kindred Funeral Home, Englewood is handling local arrangements.
