Mrs. Maud Shelton McArthur, widow of the late John Franklin McArthur, died last Friday morning at the family home following an illness of four months. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon December 21, 1947 at 3 o'clock at the Methodist church in Steele with the Rev. Marvin Niblack conducting the services. Interment was in Mount Zion Cemetery.
Mrs. McArthur was born in Obion County, Tennessee, August 5, 1869. She was the daughter of Andrew Jackson Shelton and Mary Ann Shelton. In 1889 she married John Franklin McArthur of Steele. She lived in this community until her death.
Surviving are four daughters: Mrs. A.A. Kelley of Memphis, Tenn.; Mrs. Ben W. White of Blytheville, Miss Vera McArthur who lives at the family home, Mrs. Oliver M. Skalback of Cape Girardeau; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were J.F. Taylor, W. Coleman, T.A. Haggard, Mr. Borrow, J.E. Hazel and Roy Harper.
LaForge Undertaking Co. of Caruthersville was in charge of arrangements.
