Linda Marie Vaughn, just two months and nine days past her sixth birthday, died Sunday morning in the Pemiscot County Memorial Hospital.
The pretty little girl with dark brown curly hair was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lester B. Vaughn of 106 Gibson Street. She became ill several days prior to her death which a physician said was caused by encephalitis.
Linda was in the seventh week of her first grade in school. She was a pupil of Mrs. John Holmes, who said that Linda was a very good student and popular with all other students. Always neat and prettily dressed, Linda had a smile for everyone.
Born in Hayti on June 21, 1953, Linda had lived in Steele all her life.
Services were held September 1 at 2:30 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, conducted by Rev. James F. McCrary. Interment was in the Mt. Zion Cemetery with John W. German Funeral Home in charge.
Other than her parents, Lester and Frances Vaughn, Linda is survived by her brothers, Dennis Wayne, Edward Allen and Tony Lee, all of the home; a brother and two sisters by her father's previous marriage, Charles of the Air Force stationed in Texas and Lola Mae and Carolyn Ann of Caruthersville; her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Willie Vaughn of Webster Groves and Mr. and Mrs. M.J. Sands of Hornersville; two great-grandmothers, Mrs. Susan Ethridge of Jackson, Tennessee, Mrs. Fannie Helton of Hornersville.
