Sad Accident.

An accident that brought deepest sadness and sorrow to the household of one of our best citizens, occurred in Kansas City, last Saturday. Mr. W.B. Moore, a freight conductor on the Santa Fe road, and son of Mr. H. Moore of this city, was knocked off his train by a street car bridge and received injuries from which he died in a few hours. He had his train made up and started on his trip west about 7 o'clock. When the train started it seems that he got up on top and started to walk over to the cab to register when they reached Chicago Junction, about a mile from the yards. At Truce street the Santa Fe track passes under a street car bridge, and it was here that the fatal accident happened. When the train reached the junction the rear man supposed Mr. Moore was in the cab and gave the signal to go ahead. The train pulled on to Argentine, six miles out of Kansas City, when he was missed. The train crew began a search for him, and found his lantern on top of a car, turned over. Soon after a telephone message was received from a policeman, stating that he had found W.B. Moore, and that he was very badly hurt. When found he was insensible. He had an ugly cut on the back of his head, his right hand was gone, and his left arm badly mangled. He was taken to the sister's hospital, where he died about 1 o'clock Sunday morning. The body was brought to Kirksville Tuesday morning on a special coach furnished by the Santa Fe railroad, and was accompanied by a large delegation of the brotherhood of Railway Trainmen and a large number of ladies.

The funeral took place Tuesday morning. Religious services were conducted at the C.P. church by Dr. Mitchell and the remains were then taken charge of by the Brotherhood of Trainmen, who conducted the funeral service at the grave.

Mr. Moore was a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian church, a man of exemplary habits and was greatly beloved by all his associates. He leaves a wife and one child.

Card of Thanks

We desire to return our heartfelt thanks to the many friends of Kirksville for their kindness to us in this hour of deepest sorrow.
