Friday, October 19, 1956: A.S. Miller, Sr., passed away at his home in Cooter last Friday morning around one o'clock, after several weeks' illness. He was 81 years, 6 months and 17 days old.
Born in Tennessee, he had lived in Cooter for more than 57 years, and was a retired blacksmith. His wife preceded him in death some 20 years ago, and since that time he had made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Fannie Copeland. He had been an active member of the Church of Christ for a number of years.
Funeral services were held at the Church of Christ in Steele last Sunday afternoon at three o'clock. Bro. Chris Lyles officiated and interment was at Mount Zion Cemetery. German Funeral Home had charge.
Surviving are a son, A. Sidney Miller, Jr., Detroit, Michigan; four daughters: Mrs. Copeland and Mrs. Bessie Forrester of Cooter, Mo.; Mrs. Lucy Green of Huffman, Ark., and Mrs. Ada Sayre of Caruthersville; 10 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one brother, W.S. Miller of Everley, Tenn.
