Feb 18, 1962 - Oct 10, 1977
Roger Dale Elsea, 15 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Dale Elsea of Route 1, Greentop, died as a result of injuries he received when he fell from a tree.
The accident occurred while Roger and his half-brother, Junior Lonberger were coonhunting Sunday night with a dog they had recently purchased. The dog treed a coon at 11 o'clock and Roger climbed the tree to shake the coon out. A branch broke with him and he fell nearly forty feet.
The boy was rushed to a Kirksville hospital where he died at 1:55 this morning October 10, 1977. Death was attributed to internal injuries.
Robert Dale Elsea was born February 18, 1962 in Kirksville, the son of Robert Dale and Mary Frances Jones Elsea. He attended schools in Brashear and at the time of his death was a sophomore at Brashear R-2 School. He had been active in sports and was a member of both the baseball and basketball teams at school.
He was a member of the Busy Beavers 4-H Club and attended the Willmathsville church.
Surviving are his parents; one brother, Robert Elsea of Route 1, Greentop; one half-brother, Junior Lonberger of Route 1, Greentop; four uncles, Jesse Elsea, Frank Elsea, Will Elsea and William Ferl Elsea; three aunts, Ada Lee Elsea, Peggy Yorkon and Alma Linden; one nephew and one niece.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Dora W. Elsea and Mr. and Mrs. Clyde O. "Pappy" Jones.
After seven o'clock this evening the body will be at the Johnson Funeral Home where funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon October 12, 1977 at two o'clock. Elder Clyde O. Johnson of Green Castle will conduct the services. Burial will be in the Maple Hills Cemetery.
Bearers will be Chuck Delaney, Wade Sorenson, Robin Ferguson, Doug Thomas, David Swisher and Stephen Peterson.
