Robert L. Elsea, 58, of Greentop, Missouri, passed away early Saturday (June 5, 2010) at his home, ending his battle with pancreatic cancer. Robert was born December 5, 1951 in Kirksville, Missouri, the son of Robert Dale and Mary Frances (Jones) Elsea. He attended Olive Hill School through the seventh grade, graduated from Brashear High School in 1969, and attended Northeast Missouri State College.
Robert married Kathy Carson on June 20, 1981, at Bethel Community Church. Besides his wife Kathy, Robert is survived by their four daughters - Amanda, Jenny and Kimberly of Kirksville and Stephanie of the home. He leaves behind, three grandchildren - Justin McKim, Kelsea McKim and Hailey Jordan. Other survivors include one brother, William (Junior) Lonberger of Greentop and nephews, Todd (Paula) Klingaman of Nevada, Roger (Rachel Deacon) Lonberger of Greentop, and a niece, Trudi Almond of Moberly. He is also survived by several great nieces and nephews and many cousins. Robert was preceded in death by his mother in 2001, his father in 2006 and his younger brother, Roger Dale Elsea, in 1977.
Robert grew up working on the dairy farm south of Willmathsville and he was still operating the dairy as a patron of Prairie Farms Dairy, Inc. until the dairy herd was sold on August 22, 2009 due to his illness.
As a youth, Robert was a member of the Busy Bees 4-H Club. He loved dairy farming but had many other interests as time allowed. A few of the things he liked to do included bowling (Sperry Store Team), hunting, car races, following his daughters' sports and school activities, and coaching softball. He was active in the Brashear Baseball/Softball Association and enjoyed coaching the Willowbend softball teams.
Attending the First Church of the Nazarene brought comfort and peace during the past year.
Public visitation is in progress and family will receive friends this evening, Monday (June 7, 2010) from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the chapel of Travis-Noe Funeral Home in Kirksville.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday (June 8, 2010) at Travis-Noe Funeral Home in Kirksville, with Danny Harrelson presiding. Music selection "Daddy's Hands" will be provided by Audra Jackson and selection, "Small Town Southern Man" will be played during his service. Interment will follow the service at Maple Hills Cemetery in Kirksville.
Pallbearers will be Sonny Findling, David Swisher, Bob Witherow, John "Sarge" Konarski, Kenny Crandall and Jack Delaney.
Expressions of sympathy in memory of Robert Elsea may be made to Hospice of Northeast Missouri or to the Brashear Baseball/Softball Association. Memorials may be left at or mailed to Travis-Noe Funeral Home, P.O. Box 306, Kirksville, MO 63501.
