Funeral services for Harold Edward Tipton, 87, West Plains, Missouri, will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, October 25, 2013, at First Baptist Church, under the direction of Robertson-Drago Funeral Home.
Mr. Tipton died at 11:50 p.m., Monday, October 21, 2013, at West Vue Nursing Center.
He was born July 29, 1926, at High Gate, Missouri, to Alva Tipton and Eula Eunice Tynes Tipton. He graduated from Richland High School. Mr. Tipton was a veteran, having enlisted at age 17, in the United States Navy. He served during WWII on the USS Menifee and took part in the Battle of Okinawa. On August 26, 1946, he was married in Camden County, Missouri, to Ina Thornsberry. A resident of West Plains, Missouri since 1963, Harold owned the Western Auto Store and then was a salesman for Federated Insurance Company for 17 years, until his retirement. After retirement, he enjoyed playing golf with family and friends, traveling and participating in foreign mission trips. Harold was a member of the First Baptist Church since 1963, had served as a deacon and in many ministries in the church. He was also an active board member of the Sheltered Workshop, Kiwanis Club, Rotary Club and Gideon's International.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Ina Tipton, West Plains, Missouri; one son, Timothy Edward Tipton, Tulsa, Oklahoma; two granddaughters, Morgan Elizabeth Tipton and Katelyn Alison Tipton, both of Tulsa, Oklahoma; two sisters, Berniece Wehner, husband, Gordon, Kansas City, Missouri and Virginia Eldridge, Richland, Missouri; one brother, Edgar Tipton, wife, Charlotte, Glasgow, Montana; one aunt, Alvina Muenks, Jefferson City, Missouri; and numerous nieces and nephews.
His parents, father-in-law and mother-in-law, Andrew and Pearl Mitschle Thornsberry and one brother-in-law, Don McCamey, precede him in death.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m., Thursday at Robertson-Drago Funeral Home. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to The Gideon Bible Society, and may be left at Robertson-Drago Funeral Home. Funeral services for Ina Thornsberry Tipton, 95 Tulsa, Oklahoma., will be held at the East Campus First Baptist Church in West Plains, MO., with family visitation at 1:00.
Ina was born on August 9, 1926 in Richland Missouri. She graduated from Richland High School. On August 26, 1946 she was married to Harold Edward Tipton. They had a wonderful marriage that lasted 67 years, until Harold's passing in 2013.
She was a resident at University Village in Tulsa, Oklahoma since 2015. Prior to moving to Tulsa she was a resident of West Plains, Missouri. In 1963 Ina and Harold purchased the Western Auto Store in West Plains. She then worked for West Plains Cheese and Missouri Department of Social Services until her retirement. After retirement, she enjoyed playing golf with family and friends, traveling, and participating in foreign mission trips. She was an active participant in many card games and activities at University Village. Ina was a member of First Baptist Church from 1963 until her death, serving as a Sunday School teacher and in many ministries in the church. She was a proud mother, grandmother and great grandmother spending hours talking about her prized granddaughters and great granddaughter.
She is survived by, son Timothy Edward Tipton of Tulsa, OK, granddaughters Morgan Elizabeth Tipton of Tulsa, OK, Katelyn Alison Kern (Tipton) and husband C.J. of Oklahoma City, great granddaughter Addison Tipton Kern of Oklahoma City, sister in law Berniece Wehner of Gilbert AZ, and numerous loved nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband Harold, parents Andrew Thornsberry and Pearl Mitschle Thornsberry, in laws Alva Tipton and Eula Tynes Tipton, brothers Ray Thornsberry, Tom Thornsberry, Hue Thornsberry, sister Mae Hamilton (Thornsberry), brother in law Edgar Thornsberry, and sister in law Virginia Eldredge.
