Mr. Rector Godsy passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2013, while at Ozarks Medical Center in West Plains, MO. Born on May 8, 1925, in Willow Springs to John and Mary Jane (Rader) Godsy, he was 87 years old.
Rector grew up and spent his entire life in the Willow Springs area where he attended the local schools. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II on an LST supply ship. After his honorable discharge, he returned to Willow Springs and went to work farming and raising Hereford cattle. On Aug. 6, 1949, he married Darlene Decker in West Plains. The newlyweds bought a farm and it was there that they raised registered and commercial Hereford cattle that were Rector's pride and joy. He retired from farming in 2000. Rector also worked for Rawlings Manufacturing for over 18 years as a foreman. Rector's hobbies included buying, selling, and re-finishing antiques until the loss of his vision in one eye made it difficult. He was a long-time member of the Trinity Baptist Church in Willow Springs. Rector enjoyed meeting people and was always there to give a helping hand or just pass on some good advice. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Clark and Hillard Godsy; and his sister, Maty Marie Kentch.
Rector is survived by his wife Darlene of Willow Springs; his brother Delbert Godsy of Mountain View; six nephews; and two nieces.
Funeral services were on Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, at the Willow Funeral Home, located at 106 E. Third Street in Willow Springs. Burial with Military Honors followed Saturday's service at the Willow Springs City Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Willow Funeral Home in Willow Springs. Darlene Godsy, 85 of Willow Springs, Missouri, passed away Saturday, April 16, 2016 at NHC HealthCare in West Plains, Missouri. She was born on November 18, 1930, to Wayne and Bethel (Newcomb) Decker in Lanton, Missouri.
Darlene was united in marriage to Rector Godsy on August 6, 1949 in West Plains, Missouri.
Survivors include one sister, Lucille Starr and Neil of Lennon, Michigan; one brother in-law, Lilburn Tranbarger of Mtn. View, Missouri; and nieces, Carolyn McLean of Owosso, Michigan, Joy Tranbarger and Jack McClure of Birch Tree, Missouri, Susan Ethridge and Jerry of Swartz Creek, Michigan, Jean Flewelling and Jim of Flint, Michigan, and Jill Hall and Scott of Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Darlene is preceded in death by her husband Rector; her parents Wayne and Bethel Decker; her sister, Joyce Tranbarger and great nephew Douglas Starr.
Darlene was a 1948 graduate of West Plains High School and received a BS degree in elementary education from Drury College, Springfield.
Darlene taught school for thirty five years. She began teaching in a two-room school in Brandsville. Missouri. She taught twelve years in the rural schools of Howell County, five years in the Mtn. View Elementary Schools, two years in the Cabool Elementary Schools and sixteen years in the Willow Springs Schools.
Darlene enjoyed working in her garden, growing beautiful flowers, helping Rector on their Hereford cattle farm and was known for her great pie making.
Funeral Services were held Monday, April 18th, 2016 at Yarber Mortuary Chapel, Willow Springs, Missouri, with interment in the Willow Springs City Cemetery.
