James A. Ashcraft, 67, died at his residence at Steele. He was born June 8, 1931, the son of late Abner Ashcraft and Frankie Spencer Ashcraft.
He served in the Air Force and was retired from the trucking business.
Survivors include the following: a step father, T.E. "Bud" Ashcraft of Cooter; a sister, Maureen Bryant of Kingsport, Tenn.; two sons, Jimmy Ashcraft and Kevin Ashcraft, both of St. Louis,; two daughters, Shelly Ashcraft of Tampa, Diane Ashcraft of St. Louis, and seven grandchildren.
Services were held on September 28, 1998, at the Bradshaw Funeral Home in Steele at 11:00 a.m., with Rev. Michael Funderburk officiating. Burial was at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Steele, MO.

James Abner Ashcraft, 67 of Steele, Mo, died Friday, September 25, 1998 at his home.
Born June 8, 1931 in Cooter, Mo. he was the son of the late Abner and Frankie Spencer Ashcraft. A retired businessman and United States Air Force veteran, Mr. Ashcraft was of the Baptist faith.
Mr. Ashcraft leaves his step-father, T.E. "Bud" Ashcraft, of Cooter; One sister, Maureen Bryant, of Kingsport, Tenn.; Two sons: Jimmy Ashcraft and Kevin Ashcraft of St. Louis, Mo.; Two daughters: Shelly Ashcraft of Tampa and Diane Evans of St. Louis; Seven grandchildren; and Several great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mr. Ashcraft were held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, September 28, 1998 at the Bradshaw Funeral Home in Steele with Rev. Michael Funderburk officiating.
Burial was at the Mt. Zion Cemetery in Steele with Bradshaw Funeral Home in charge.
Pallbearers were Jerry McClure, Sam Smith, Carrol Lorren, J.W. Kelley, Bill Lovins and Gene Brown.
Honorary pallbearers were Bill Shelby and Skip Brown.
