Sibyl Jean Spence of Willow Springs, Mo., passed away Saturday, September 26, 2009, surrounded by her loved ones. Born September 15, 1925, in Willow Springs, to J.R. Lovan and Katherine (Austin) Lovan, she was 84.
Sibyl is survived by her husband, Wayne J. Spence; children, Ron Spence and wife, Diane of Memphis, Tenn., Deborah Mast and husband, Jacob (Jack) Mast of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Judy Spence of Forrestville, Calif.
Sibyl's grandchildren and great-grandchildren are Aaron and Jared Cadwell and Jared's daughter, Carrie Judy Cadwell of Forrestville, Calif., Ryan Spence and wife, Corinne of Tacoma, Wash., Anne Lucas and husband, Jon and their children, Olivia and Jonathan of Nashville, Tenn., and Dr. David Spence and wife, Brittany and their son, Austin of Memphis, Tenn.
She is also survived by her sister, Jo Wilbanks of Willow Springs; sister-in-law Freda of Willow Springs; sister-in-law Rita Alberty and husband, John of Jefferson City, Mo.; sister-in-law Ellen Benton and husband, Ray of Bella Vista, Ark.; and very many beloved nieces and nephews, and great-grand-nieces and nephews.
She is also survived by the close and loving church family of Trinity Baptist Church of Willow Springs; lifelong friends from Willow Springs; and lifelong friends from Village Baptist Church of San Lorenzo, Calif.
Sibyl was preceded in death by great-grandson, Forrest Spence of Memphis, Tenn.; and by her siblings, Leola Roberts and husband, Hap, Elaine Jackson and husband, Irvin, James Jr. "Boy" Lovan and wife, Lydia, Roy Lovan, Harry Lovan and wife, Lillian, Sammie (Lovan) Petrus and husband, Willard, Katherine "Kat" Pace and husband, Rex; brother-in-law Lawrence Spence and wife, Dorothy "Dot" of Willow Springs (later, Dot Bruner of Republic, Mo.); and brother-in-law Jack Stoner.
Sibyl grew up in Willow Springs, but after marriage to Wayne, a Navy pilot, they lived in several states including Florida, California, Texas and Virginia, before eventually moving back to their hometown of Willow Springs, Mo.
Sibyl's life centered always around family and loved ones, and her faith. Her gentleness and ready humor and loving kindness will be sorely missed.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, September 29, in Trinity Baptist Church, Willow Springs, Mo. Interment will follow in Willow Springs cemetery.

Dec. 31, 1951 - Apr. 13, 2012: Judy Spence passed on in the early hours of April 13, in her bed with her beloved dog, Lulu, next to her. She had been surrounded by family and loved ones for days. Judy faced her journey with cancer with exceptional strength, courage, grace, and unwavering faith. She is survived by her sons, Aaron and Jared Cadwell, of Petaluma and Santa Rosa, and their dad, Mike Cadwell; by her beloved granddaughter, Carrie Judy Cadwell, and Carrie's family, Lorena, Genevie, and Sonny. She is also survived by her Dad, Wayne Spence of Willow Springs, MO, and his wife Helen. Judy's mom, Sibyl Spence, preceded her in death in 2009. She is also survived by her brother Ron Spence and wife Diane of Memphis, and by her sister Deborah Mast and husband Jack of St Petersburg, FL., and by beloved niece and nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews, and an extended family of very loved aunts and cousins, and by lifelong family friend, Waleen Kostal and husband Larry of Seattle. She is survived as well by her spiritual family of Open Door Church of Petaluma, especially her close friend, Don Stoppel. She also leaves a community of close friends from Leisure Lake Park, and longtime dear friend, Mark Friesen of Hopland, CA. Services will be held at Open Door Church, 16 Fifth St., Petaluma on Wed. April 18, at 7:00 p.m. The family would like to thank Dr. Nicolaj Andersen of Kaiser, and Elaine at Amitabha Clinic for their expert and compassionate care of Judy.
