Bill J. Griggs, 70, of Steele, formerly of Dell, Ark., died Saturday, July 16, 2011, at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.
Born July 3, 1941 in Dell, he is the son of the late William Alfred Griggs and Eva Ramey Griggs. However, due to the death of his mother, he was raised by his maternal grandparents, Troy and Adi Sue Ramey.
He was a graduate of Dell Public School. He later became an active farmer in Whistleville, Ark. He was passionate about farming, antique cars and hunting.
Mr. Griggs leaves his wife, Joan Riddick Griggs, of the home; Three children: Tina Sue Griggs Carr and husband Michael of Collierville, Tenn., Dana Griggs of Jackson, Ark., and Tim Griggs and wife Brandy of Blytheville, Ark.; One granddaughter, Ellen Carr: Three grandsons: Reyn Griggs, Chandler Carr and Bo Willyard; One great-granddaughter, Lillie Collen Willyard; and One brother, Ronnie Griggs, of New Albany, Miss.
Funeral services for Mr. Griggs were held at 3 p.m., Wednesday, July 20 at the John W. German Funeral Home Chapel in Steele with Rev. Marilyn Webb officiating. Burial was at the Mt. Zion Cemetery in Steele.
Pallbearers were Bo Willyard, Chandler Carr, Drew Blankenship, Kevin Gray, Dr. Allen Hunnicutt and Richard Simpson.
Honorary pallbearers were Dr. David Sloas, Joe Buck, Barry Ray, Koehler Blankenship, Andy Adams, William Knight, Steve Baugher and Tommy Simpson.
