Elva M. Crawford, 78, of Kirksville, Missouri died Sunday (January 14, 1996) at the Grim-Smith Hospital in Kirksville, Missouri.
The daughter of Irvin and Ida Mae (Casey) VanHoose, she was born May 2, 1917 in Novinger, Missouri. In 1933 in Adair County, Missouri she married Julian Long. On February 14, 1959 in Kirksville, Missouri she married Charles Morris Crawford who preceded her in death on July 13, 1978.
She is also preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Joe VanHoose and one in infancy.
She is survived by three sons, Ronald Gene Long and wife Mary Lou of Lowellville, Ohio, John R. Long and wife Mary of Kansas City, Missouri and Richard L. Long and wife Linda of Kirksville, Missouri; one daughter, Judy Ann Bennett and husband Richard of Council Bluffs, Iowa; two brothers, Irvin VanHoose Jr and wife Lela of Kirksville, Missouri and Ernest VanHoose and wife Pat of Novinger, Missouri; four sisters, Daisy Davis of Atlanta, Missouri, Louise Rouse of Novinger, Missouri, Mary Rouse of Kirksville, Missouri and Betty Holman and husband George of Indianapolis, Indiana; one sister-in-law, Susie Corbett; twelve grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren.
Elva was raised in Novinger and attended the Novinger schools. After her marriage she moved to Kirksville and worked for the Adair County Nursing Home as a nurse's aide. In 1955 she went to work for McGraw-Edison until she retired in 1979. She loved to do church work, needlework and quilting. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother.
She was a member of the First Freewill Baptist Church in Kirksville and has been actively working in the Salvation Army for the last few years.
Funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm Wednesday (January 17, 1996) in the Chapel of the Fohn Funeral Home with the Reverend Virgil K Jones officiating. Music will be provided by Marjorie Brenizer singing " Jesus is tenderly Calling: and "When The Roll Is Called Up Yonder" accompanied by Julia Mollick, organist. Burial will be in the Highland Park Cemetery in Kirksville, Missouri.
Pallbearers will be Bob Rouse, Bill Rouse, Paul VanHoose, Frank Mills, Wayne Gardner and Laverne Gerhold.
Visitation is in progress and the family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 this evening (January 16, 1996) at the Fohn Funeral Home, 402 N. Elson, Kirksville Mo (660) 665-2100
